Drug and Alcohol Treatment in a Private Home

Bright Paths Recovery treats current and former athletes in a 12-bed private home in Los Angeles with the equipment the population actually uses: a real gym, a boxing setup, a basketball court, and a clinical program, medical detox through residential care, built for people whose bodies were the career and whose pain management became the problem.

The Pain Pathway: How the Training Room Becomes the Problem

Athlete addiction usually enters through the door marked legitimate: an injury, a prescription, a season that could not wait for healing. Among former NFL players, 52 percent reported using prescription opioids during their careers, and 71 percent of those reported misusing themWashington University study. College sports have pushed prescription rates down, NCAA surveys show narcotic pain medication use falling from 18 percent to about 6 percent over the last decadeNCAA, 2024, but the generation already retired carries the old math in their joints and their dependence.

Performance culture supplies the second pathway: a life calibrated to adrenaline, structure, and scoreboard suddenly ends, and the silence where the season used to be gets filled with alcohol, stimulants, or whatever restores the feeling of game speed. Athletes are trained to play through pain and distrust anyone who suggests stopping; it is exactly the wiring that made them great and exactly the wiring that keeps them sick.

Discretion, Structurally

Privacy for Names That Live on Scoreboards

Whether your name trended nationally or filled a local sports page, exposure works the same: a known athlete in a known facility is content. Our home generates none: an unmarked 12-bed residence with no branding, no crowd, and no sight line a camera cares about, with records sealed under 42 CFR Part 2 federal confidentiality. Agents, teams, and leagues learn what you authorize in writing, and nothing else. The comeback story, if you ever want one told, gets told by you, on your timeline.

Leagues, Agents, and the Second Career: Coordination on Your Terms

Active athletes may carry league or players-association program obligations, testing schedules, and contract language that treatment intersects with; those are decisions to navigate with your agent and counsel, and our lane is precise: we treat, we document, and we coordinate with league or association programs exactly where you direct. No league office hears from us otherwise.

For retired athletes, the coordination is different but just as real: pain management that does not rebuild dependence, a physician-led look at the injuries that started the story, and short-term, non-maintenance medication support during detox with the long-term plan being your body working without a pharmacy. The clinical work then goes where athlete treatment usually will not: identity. Who you are when the season is over is not a motivational poster question here; it is the treatment plan, worked through daily structure, one-on-one therapy, and a peer house that respects discipline when it sees it.

Keep Your Phone and Your Laptop
The Policy That Changes the Decision

You Keep Your Phone and Your Laptop

The number one question professionals ask us, before cost, before length of stay, is whether treatment means going dark. Here it does not. Clients keep their phones and laptops at Bright Paths Recovery. The clinical day comes first and we help you set boundaries that protect it, but you stay appropriately connected to the people and responsibilities that need you. Same-day admissions mean the decision and the arrival can share a date, a stay runs about 35 days, and if you are weighing time away from work, federal job-protection rules may apply: our plain-language guide to FMLA and rehab covers what most employees never get told.

The Program

Treatment Built Around an Athlete's Discipline

Athletes tend to out-train the program’s schedule by week two, and the clinical team channels exactly that: structure is the native language here. The clinical spine is one continuum in one home: medically supervised detox with 24/7 physician oversight and short-term, non-maintenance medication support, then residential inpatient treatment structured around daily clinical groups, one-on-one therapy, CBT, DBT, motivational enhancement, and relapse prevention, and after discharge, an alumni network with weekly proactive check-ins. Most stays run 28 to 40 days, about 35 typically. Our stated goal is to see every client only one time.

A Private Home Built to a Professional's Standard

Twelve beds in a fully remodeled private residence: a private chef cooking restaurant-grade meals daily, a gym with boxing and cardio equipment, a basketball court, a green grounding area, streaming in every room, three stocked kitchens, and a private therapy room. Weekend outings, the ocean, museums, escape rooms, put recovery into practice in the real world. It photographs like a home because it is one.

Straight Answers

What Athletes Ask Us

1

Is There a Rehab Where an Athlete Can Actually Train?

Yes: a gym with boxing equipment, weights, and cardio, plus a basketball court and outdoor space, inside a 12-bed private home. Training is built around the clinical day rather than replaced by it, because taking movement away from an athlete in early recovery is clinical malpractice with extra steps.

2

How Do You Handle Pain Without Opioids?

Physician-directed and honestly: detox uses short-term, non-maintenance medication support only, and the residential plan rebuilds pain management around movement, sleep repair, and clinical modalities rather than a refill. Our Medical Director’s philosophy is explicit: get clients off substances and back into their lives, never onto a new dependence.

3

Does Treatment Work Around a Season or Contract Window?

A stay runs 28 to 40 days and admission can be same-day, so an off-season or an injured-reserve stint is a real window. Contract and league-program implications belong with your agent and counsel; we coordinate at your direction and keep the clinical calendar honest about what a rushed exit costs.

Agent, Coach, Teammate
For the People Around Them

For the Agent, Coach, Teammate, or Family in the Corner

The people in an athlete’s corner see the slide before any test does: the recovery that stopped recovering, the prescriptions that outlasted the rehab plan, the retirement that turned the discipline inward. Confronting a competitor head-on usually triggers exactly the fight response that made them great, so come differently:

With a plan that respects the athlete’s identity, a program with a real gym and a physician who understands pain, benefits verified, admission available the same day the willingness shows up. Agents protect careers; families protect people; done right, this call does both. We will help you stage it, and everything about the inquiry stays inside the corner.

FAQs

Rehab for Athletes: Frequently Asked Questions

Constantly; it is the population’s signature story. A prescription that outlived the injury, then the injury outliving the career, then the pharmacy outliving both. Detox is physician-led with the orthopedic history in the chart, and the plan treats pain as real while refusing to let it re-run the old solution.

Hard but structured: the gym, the boxing setup, and the court are yours around the clinical day, and for most athletes training becomes a treatment tool rather than a competing agenda. What gets coached out is using exhaustion as anesthesia; there is a difference between training and hiding, and our team knows it on sight.

Only from you or where you direct us in writing; federal confidentiality law covers every record here. Plenty of clients loop their agent in as an ally and no one else. The information perimeter is yours to draw.

The full stack comes into the clinical conversation: stimulants, sleep aids, alcohol, opioids, and the gray-market layer athletes rarely mention first. Detox protocols treat what is actually in the system, which is why the intake conversation is blunt and judgment-free.

Twelve clients, professionally mixed, and the competitor’s brain translates: the founder, the surgeon, and the linebacker turn out to run on the same operating system. Athletes usually become the house’s structure-setters by week two, and the role suits the recovery.

Weekly family therapy on site, and your phone stays with you daily. Families who lived the career carry its whiplash too; the repair work here includes the people who kept the calendar all those years.

Adults 18 and over, which includes college athletes; the young-adult clinical experience here runs deep. Eligibility and program questions stay between you, your school, and your advisors; our confidentiality framework is identical either way.

A private app and weekly alumni call that travel with training schedules, proactive check-ins that flag drift early, and a discharge plan that treats the comeback as a recovery asset when it is structured and a relapse risk when it is not. The team will tell you which one yours is.
